Did you know that Lord & Taylor is one of the oldest department stores in the United States? Not long after Brooks Brothers opened up shop in 1818, this iconic place opened its doors in 1826. Forward-thinking Samuel Lord arrived from England with a mission to sell the best women’s clothes, hosiery, and shawls in New York City. He started his venture on Catherine Street in an area that is now called Two Bridges in the heart of Manhattan. After a couple of years of business, his wife’s cousin, George Washington Taylor joined him on his venture. The store thing got its iconic name from the two of them: Lord & Taylor.
The iconic department store is still much loved even centuries later with 38 locations dotting the United States alongside an online shop.
