Spend versus Splurge: Top 5 Home Items Not to Skimp on

Everybody tries to be a bit thrifty in today’s day and age. However, did you know there are many products out there where the name brand is exactly the same as the off-brand item (often even made in the same factories), except in different packaging. There are also items in life that you don't want to skimp on, because the off-brands are nowhere close to the same quality as the name brand. Read through our list of the top five items that you should definitely spend a little extra cash on!

#1—Toilet Paper

The last thing that anybody wants to happen when using the bathroom is for the toilet paper to rip. It can make your morning go from bad to worse in a split second! Spending a little extra money on top-quality toilet paper is well worth it. You only get to enjoy a short amount of time on this planet, so be sure to enjoy it in comfort by buying better toilet paper!

#2—Shoes

Spending a little more on shoes right now can actually save you money down the road. Quality shoes will last you longer and offer you better support than cheap shoes. If you work on your feet all day, a good pair of quality shoes can make a world of difference. Sufferers of back, leg, or neck pain may be able to alleviate some of these aches simply by purchasing better shoes. More expensive shoes may also last you a year or two longer than the cheaper brands, which means that you don't have to spend money on replacing them as often.

#3—Mattress

Where do you spend most of your time at home? It’s your mattress! People spend, on average, between 6 – 8 hours in their bed every night. A quality mattress will allow you to get a better night’s sleep and it will be far more comfortable than a cheaper mattress. As with quality shoes, you will also get a longer use out of a more expensive mattress, which makes it cheaper in the long run.

#4—Couch

When you are not on your mattress at home, chances are that you are lounging around on the couch. A couch, especially in a house full of kids, will get jumped on, spilled on, and just generally abused. Purchasing a high quality couch will last longer against wear, and it will give you better support.

#5—Washer and Dryer

Cheap washer and dryers are not as efficient as the higher quality ones. In addition, washer and dryers use a lot of water and electricity in your house to run. Purchasing a cheaper, less efficient washer and dryer means that you will spend more money overall on cleaning your clothing. You can save money over time by investing in a good washer and dryer set right off the bat! Top quality washer and dryers may also come with a longer warranty than the cheaper brands, which will keep you protected against early parts failure.
