How to Exercise for Free! No Gym Needed. Really!

How many of you constantly say you’re going to exercise more? And how many of you actually do? Be honest. One deterring factor for many people is the cost that comes with an expensive gym membership or classes, but we hope you’ll discover your motivation with these completely free ways to exercise.

Free routines

It can be intimidating to go to a gym, especially if you don’t feel like you know what you are doing. One way to get some practice is to learn from DVDs and videos. You could borrow DVDs from a friend or a local library. YouTube also has many fitness channels you can subscribe to, to get some great fitness tips and workout ideas. Believe it or not, there is actually some useful stuff on there. Podcasts are another great way to boost your motivation and get some tips on how to exercise the right way. Lastly, downloading fitness apps on your mobile device will remind you to stay fit wherever you are. They can help you set goals, design workouts, and track your progress.

Free team

You might not want to work out alone, so what better way than to join a team? Look out for sign-ups for local sports teams. Many of them might be free. You can get some exercise while also having fun!

Free trainer

So, you are ready for the gym. Gym memberships are not cheap, but many gyms have free sessions with personal trainers and free trials before you join. They don’t have to know that you are just there for the free stuff—that can be our little secret... Or better yet, maybe you have a very nice friend who has a membership at a gym with free friend passes.

Free equipment

Ran out of free trials and free guest passes, huh? It’s okay. No shame in that. On to the next plan. Now that you know how to use the gym equipment after your free trial, where are you going to get some equipment for your home gym? Easy. It’s free. Try out sites like Freecycle or join a few Facebook groups. You might be surprised to find out how much fitness equipment is available online for free. Don’t mind the dust. It’s probably been collecting it for a while. But now it’s all yours—just dust it off and get going.

Free exercise anywhere

Sometimes the best exercise is the type that is the least stressful, that we don’t need anything for except time. Walking is a great free way to get exercise, as long as you aren’t walking while shopping. Then, it might not be so free. Running is also a good option. And while a bike might be an investment unless you get a free one, that could be an option too. And lastly, if you live near the water or a free pool, take a dip. Swimming is one of the best full-body exercises around. There are even exercises you can do with everyday objects around your house or town. Some parks and schools have fitness tracks that anyone can use for free. Or you could just do some exercises on the stairs you have at home, push ups, or wall squats. There are lots of exercises you can do with the help of various household objects.
