Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8 Plus—What’s New?

Available from April 21st, Samsung’s new flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, come with a whole host of exciting new upgrades that will have any smartphone aficionados drooling.

Samsung’s long-anticipated S8 and S8 Plus is almost out, and both smartphone buffs and casual consumers are pretty excited. For one thing, it’s visually a glory to behold, but technologically, it’s got some fantastic new features which are sure to set it apart from the competition.

Bixby Virtual Assistant

The new kid on the block, Bixby is planning to give both Siri and Google Assistant a run for its money. Bixby is capable of contextual understanding, which means that it can decipher images, text, and voice to understand user behavior. For example, if you check the train times on a travel app every morning before work, Bixby will automatically open the app around this time. In addition, the 12-megapixel camera in the Samsung S8 and S8 Plus has ‘Bixby vision’, which provides suggestions and extra information about everything, from a product you’re considering buying, to a landmark or restaurant. The camera is similar to those in their previous models, with one major difference—the S8 has new image processing technology which takes multiple frames to create one ‘perfect’ picture. Smart, huh?

Infinity Display

Samsung has learnt from their S6 and S7 models that customers are really digging the ‘edge’ curved versions over the original flat displays, so for their S8 models they’ve ditched the straight screens and gone for ‘infinity displays’. These new flagships use an 18, 5:9 aspect ratio, which is designed to offer more space for multi-tasking, meaning you can have multiple apps open on the same screen. Both versions have Super AMOLED displays (resolution 2960 x 1440 px), with the main difference being the screen size—the Galaxy S8 has a 5.8” display, while the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6.2” display.

Qualcomm Processor & Battery Life

One of the aspects which tech-nerds are going nuts over in these S8 models is the use of Qualcomm’s newest processor, the Snapdragon 835. It is the most power efficient advancement so far, which Quick Charge technology which promises 5 hours of battery life in just 5 minutes. The battery suggests around 20 hours of talk-time and up to 12 hours of battery life, with the S8 Plus offering 3 more hours due to its slightly larger battery.

The Samsung S8 and S8 Plus sound pretty sweet, but are also sure to burn a pretty sweet hole in your pocket, too.
